There are many opportunities for parents to be involve at Mountain View School:

  • Join the School Site Council (SSC) and the English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) advisory committees to give input into matters that concern the school's academic programs and categorical budget allotments. Council Members are elected by the parents and serve for 2 years.  Elections are held during the month of September. These meetings are open to all community members.
  • Attend Principal and Parent Coffee sessions that are held at 9:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month.
  • Attend parent training and workshops that are offered throughout the school year.
  • Volunteer on field trips. Parents who are fingerprinted may chaperones on field trips for their student's class and for other classes.
  • Be a Grassroot ESL tutor and teach other parents English in a small group setting. Training and material are provided.
  • Volunteer to assist teachers in the classroom.
  • Come to the Parent Center and help work on projects for teachers.
  • Volunteer to help at school events.
  • Share your ideas and concerns with the principal.

Homework assignments are made to extend and reinforce classroom work. Students will receive homework on a regular basis beginning in kindergarten. We need you to make sure that your child’s work assignments are completed and returned on time.

Parent Responsibility:

  • expect regular homework assignments;
  • show active interest in homework (ask your child about the school day);
  • provide an uninterrupted time and a quiet place in which to work;
  • teach your child methods to organize his/her time and work;
  • limit assistance to guiding, aiding, reviewing, listening, and answering questions;
  • check assignments to make sure they are completed, organized and neatly done;
  • provide needed materials;
  • have your child read on a daily basis
  • promptly sign and return necessary forms, work and/or notes.
